Rohan Bopanna wins French Open Grand Slam, creating history for Indian Tennis!!
Tennis: French Open Tennis Championship
8/6/2017 would be marked as historic day for Indian Tennis as Rohan Bopanna became the 4th Indian to win grand slam trophy. French open is the premier clay court tournament and is considered among the four most prestigious tournaments in the world. Before Rohan, its the legend Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza who have got the prestigious title.
Rohan participated in mixed doubles with Canadian partner G Dabrowski, beating India's own Sania Mirza in Quarter Finals to reach semis. Pair won against A Hlavackova and E. Roger-Vasselin in Semi-Finals in 7-5, 6-3 sets.
Rohan and Gabriela, lost the first set to R. Farah and A. Gronfeld with 2-6 points but made strong comeback and won with 6-2 and 12-10 in next 2 sets. 37 year old Rohan changed strategy to understand clay court better, in his own words "I wasn’t serving and volleying, but I was serving and staying back,” he says. “I was using my forehand as a weapon. It was about bringing something new to my game. It gave me the option of going up or just staying back and playing my ground strokes. It’s helped me understand the game and clay surface better."
Family and friends are the ones you need to celebrate such occasion and wishes, congratulations made their way to Rohan on Twitter.
